Education is broken and most graduates are broke. The purpose of this book is to start an important dialogue about college education. I will make the case for why I believe 70% of college students should drop out. The concept of giving our trust to the educational system without accountability has not worked. I believe it’s time to ask serious questions Why do we go to college in the first place? - Who should go to college and who shouldn’t? - Can I succeed and do great things without college? - Why do tuition and textbooks cost as much as they do? - Have colleges simply become a big business (with tax-free status)? - Are the subjects taught in college sufficient for life or do we need an upgrade? Let me clarify something this is NOT a book that declares that higher education is a terrible thing. Many professions require it, but I believe education can and does take place in many forms. As a college dropout and an autodidact, I’ve read over 1,200 books in the last 15 years and believe there are many paths we can take to get educated and do great things. Fair Warning You may have passionate feelings about the points in this book. Regardless of how strong you feel one way or another, my desired outcome is to start a broad dialogue so we can process the issues – together. Ready?

What an incredible book. So incredible I dropped out of college yesterday.
The most expensive eye opener in my life...
Today I say goodbye.
I say good bye to these pointless classes taught by professors with no actual experience on what they are teaching.
I say good bye to over priced credits that I could have applied to a seminar to help better myself.
I say good bye to text books that cost $15 but the college is actually charging me $200-$300
I say good bye to stupid rules such as "no technology in class" hello do know the world we live in?
Other stupid rules such as don't open the door when some one is speaking in a PUBlIC speaking class wait what? Do they know what the real world is like?
If you don't agree with me, I really don't care. But for 3 years I basically pulled money out of
My pocket and dumped it into a storm drain.
I'm not saying no one should go to college but what I am saying is if you think YOU HAVE to go to college to be successful wake the hell up!!
I had a rough past and I am very successful . I own and run a company I have grown 1,600% in 3 years, I own my own house at the age of 24, and I travel the world whenever I want.

Drop Out And Get Schooled The Case For Thinking Twice About College Patrick BetDavid Thomas N Ellsworth 9780997441024 Books Reviews

Just finished reading a book called “Drop Out and Get Schooled The Case For Thinking Twice About College”. The two authors, one is a self-educated entrepreneur and the second has a couple college degrees. Both give lectures. Both are successful business people. And they ask this question Is college worth it? And is it for everybody? Depending on whether you went to college or not, this book can be difficult to view objectively. However, this book helps process the decision if college is right for you.

Who should read this book? Those finishing up high school and considering college; those thinking about quitting their jobs and taking classes on the side, and those helping children or spouses in the decision making process.

This book is not anti-education. Quite the opposite. It focuses more on people going into business, and specifically for entrepreneurs (not so much the sciences, medicine, theology, etc. but there's probably room for revolutions in those fields too!). General concerns include college debt in America. The average cost of a 4-year degree is around $88,000. With a fixed loan rate of 5.75%, totaling $147,000. Who makes more money than universities? Maybe credit card companies? Are college graduates getting a return for their investment? That’s the question.

Personally, I had an invaluable college experience. Still, I’m looking for ways to educate myself in business, and taking business classes at a university doesn't seem like it's going to be good in terms of ROI. Business mentors, advisors, online tutorials, YouTube videos on social media and the Valuetainment YouTube Channel have been my best sources of education in business so far.
Current 4th year at Cal Poly Pomona and I thought the book was great! Many different views that I never got when was I in high school especially coming from a 1st generation Latino family. I'm majoring in Political Science but will not do much with my major once I graduate next year. I drifted away from my Major and left my govt job to start an eBay business last summer. I've been lucky to have a full scholarship where I don't have to worry about paying for schooling but as an young entrepreneur BS classes and homework do take a lot of my time from focusing on my vision. Coming to my end of schooling I have a class that requires me to do an internship. Reading the last chapter about shallowing a CEO made my light bulb turn on and I'm about to go fight my advisor to let me do an internship with a CEO around the area of Los Angeles rather for them to waste my time doing free labor in the public sector.
While I think this book would appeal more to college students, I found it incredibly balanced and unbiased. I was afraid that the author would forget that many professions rely on a college degree. I found that getting a master’s degree didn’t help me much in my career path. Theory is much different than working in the real world. I’m not sorry I got my degree, but I do wish I had read this book before I started.
I enjoyed reading “Drop Out and Get Schooled.” It gives me ideas on how to further my own career path without going back to college.
I rarely give 5-star reviews, but I'm making an exception for this book. I may even recommend it to my friends who have kids thinking about going to college.
